The two bridesmaids had different figures and preferences and therefore finding a dress to suit both was important. They tried on dresses together in a number of high street shops before finding a style that both liked. The final dresses had princess seams, with an empire waistline, but were tailored beneath this. One bridesmaid preferred longer sleeves, whereas
the other favoured no sleeves at all so the dress was made in two versions. Both bridesmaids particularly liked lilac. Different shades were tried up against their complexions until one was found looked good. Crepe backed satin was chosen because of its drape, and mottled sheen.
